According to Breitbart, actor George Clooney, once a vocal advocate for Biden stepping aside, now concedes the decision to elevate Harris was a misstep, sparking fierce backlash from his own party after her loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Clooney’s journey into this political quagmire began with his early concerns about Biden’s fitness for another run.
During a fundraiser alongside former President Barack Obama, Clooney noticed worrying signs of cognitive decline in Biden, well before any public debate exposed these issues.
Yet, he held his tongue until Biden’s faltering performance in a televised debate against Trump confirmed his fears.
In a bold op-ed, Clooney laid bare his concerns, urging Biden to step down for the good of the party, a move he still stands by despite the fallout.
Clooney didn’t just want Biden out; he argued for a proper primary process to battle-test potential replacements and find a strong contender.
“We had a chance. I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the op-ed, a primary. Let’s battle-test this quickly and get it up and going,” Clooney told CNN’s Jake Tapper.
“I think the mistake with it being Kamala is she had to run against her own record. It’s very hard to do if the point of running is to say, ‘I’m not that person,’” he added, pinpointing why Harris struggled (CNN).
Clooney’s critique of Harris isn’t personal but pragmatic—she was saddled with defending a record that didn’t resonate with voters seeking change.
Her task was daunting, as Clooney noted, making it nearly impossible to distance herself from policies tied to the administration she served.
