Fetterman Slams Socialist Direction for NYC Mayoral Race

Hold onto your hats, folks—Democratic Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania just threw a verbal grenade into the New York City mayoral race with a sharp critique of the leading candidate’s socialist leanings.

According to the Daily Caller, with the NYC mayoral election just days away, Fetterman has voiced serious concerns about Democratic Socialist nominee Zohran Mamdani, who holds a commanding lead over competitors Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, while sparking a divide among Democratic leaders with his progressive agenda.

Let’s rewind to June, when Mamdani clinched the Democratic nomination for mayor, setting the stage for a contentious battle in the Big Apple.

Fetterman’s Bold Stand Against Socialism

Fast forward to July, and Fetterman was already sounding the alarm in an interview, making it crystal clear he’s no fan of Mamdani’s political playbook.

By September, New York Governor Kathy Hochul threw her weight behind Mamdani with a glowing op-ed in The New York Times, signaling a growing rift within the party.

Then in October, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries followed suit, offering his endorsement after initially dodging the topic—a move that likely left moderates scratching their heads.

Polls Show Mamdani’s Strong Lead

Recent polls paint a stark picture: a Thursday survey by Emerson College, PIX11, and The Hill shows Mamdani with a whopping 50% support, towering over Cuomo at 25% and Sliwa at 21%, with just 4% undecided.

Another poll from Marist University isn’t much different, pegging Mamdani at 48%, with Cuomo trailing at 32% and Sliwa at 16%, leaving only 3% on the fence.

These numbers suggest Mamdani’s momentum is a freight train, but Fetterman isn’t buying the hype, standing as one of the few Democrats openly pushing back against this tide.

Policy Proposals Raise Eyebrows

If elected, Mamdani has promised sweeping changes like hiking the minimum wage to $30 an hour and creating government-run grocery stores—ideas that sound noble but could hit taxpayers hard.

He’s also floated taxing wealthier, predominantly white neighborhoods more heavily, a policy that’s sure to ignite fierce debate over fairness and economic impact.

On Sunday’s “State of the Union” on CNN, Fetterman didn’t mince words, taking direct aim at this progressive vision for New York City.

Fetterman’s Critique Hits Hard

“Socialism is not the future of my party,” Fetterman declared on CNN, warning that such systems have faltered globally and shouldn’t be the blueprint for Democrats (CNN’s “State of the Union”).

“And if that’s gonna be their future, that’s really up to New York City to decide those things,” he added, conceding local choice while still jabbing at the ideology with a polite but pointed reminder of history’s lessons (CNN’s “State of the Union”).
